#25 Property Management Is Nothing But Problems
If you're a property manager, chances are you've had to deal with your fair share of tenant problems. Maybe a pipe has burst, or there's been a break-in. Whatever the problem may be, it's important to remember that venting about it isn't going to solve anything. Instead, focus on problem-solving and coming up with a solution. Not only will this save you time and energy in the long run, but it will also show your tenants/team/supervisors that you're capable of handling whatever comes your way.
When property management makes you feel overwhelmed it may be tempting to seek counsel from a friend or family member in order to vent about the situation. But keep in mind that listening to a vent session does not typically provide any solutions that can actually address the problem.
Venting rarely leads to any constructive solutions and can often make you feel worse.
Venting can be a useful outlet for stress and emotions, but it often fails to provide real solutions. When all we do is complain or talk about our problems, these situations don't improve. Not only that, but the negative energy which we put out into the world can actually end up making us feel worse off than when we first started talking. It's important to find a balance between expressing our feelings while also actively trying to find ways to make life better.
Taking a problem-solving approach rather than venting can be incredibly empowering. When we focus on solutions (instead of stewing on what happened) we give ourselves the opportunity to change the situation for the better. We take back control and create something positive out of what looked like a negative scenario.
